Fleet:
The village of Fleet, to the West of Weymouth, was the setting for J. Meade Falkner’s famous smuggling novel “Moonfleet”.
The village takes its name from the tidal lagoon running from Portland Harbour to
Abbotsbury. The lagoon is separated from Lyme Bay, by the Chesil beach -
Fleet village is a picturesque cluster of cottages, farms and woodland. The South West Coast Path follows the shoreline of the Fleet and links to a network of other footpaths, some of which offer excellent views of the Fleet.
The village has two churches, the older of which was mostly destroyed by a freak
wave -
